Print on Demand

The technology Print on Demand is based on the use of modern means of printing (large format plotters). It allows to use databases of digital nautical charts constantly updated on the basis of Notices to Mariners issued by the Department of Navigation and Oceanography (DNO) Ministry of Defense.

The purpose of using Print on Demand is to provide the seafarer with the corrected charts within 24 hours. The navigator will be provided with the updated versions of paper maps with standard conventional signs and colors and without the outdated information which will 'disappear' from the map. Further corrections can be made with pencil based on the provisional and preliminary Notices, or the mariners can have the provisional and preliminary Notices printed and insert the corrections themselves.

In the bottom every map has an inscription 'Printed on demand with the corrections based on the Notices to Mariners, issue No ..., (year).'

In addition, the Print on Demand copies are different from the traditionally printed paper copies of charts owing to the beautiful graphics, bright colors, and appropriate size. Print on Demand technology is used as a complement to the traditional printing processes, in order to reduce the costs of transportation, storage, circulation in the warehouses, as well as to avoid a situation where the charts are out of stock. Print on Demand technology allows to adjust the chart in a professional cartographic center and print the number of copies with high quality, including a remote large-format plotter. For printing, standard chart paper and special water-resistant pigment ink are used which allows to avoid fading.

The technology Print on Demand is implemented since 25.06.2005 (see Notiuce to Mariners №3610, issue №27, DNO).

The company utilizes print-on-demand on the basis of a license agreement with 280 Central Chart Production Division of the Navy.

The company has a branch in Riga and subdivisions in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where the print ordered charts.
